Standby Letter Of Credit (Sblc)

GLOBAL CONNECT TRADING L.L.C.

A guarantee issued by a bank or financial institution to pay a beneficiary on behalf of a client when the applicant fails to meet its obligations is called a standby letter of credit. This instrument was developed due to legal restrictions imposed by U.S. regulatory authorities regarding the power of banks to issue guarantees.

The standby letter of credit is suitable for a wide range of secured payments, making it a particularly flexible instrument. It is primarily used in international trade to guarantee to the beneficiary that payment will be made, regardless of the circumstances. However, this type of instrument involves several complex technical and legal aspects. It is therefore recommended to consult an expert when all the information relating to the procedure is not available.

The main types of standby letters of credit are as follows:

  1. Direct Pay Standby
  2. Performance Standby
  3. Bid or Tender Bond Standby
  4. Advance Payment Standby
  5. Financial Standby
  6. Counter-Standby
  7. Commercial Standby
  8. Insurance Standby
